(St. Louis, M.T.) - A.T. Crane Post master at the Post Office St. Louis, \"Post Office Change/Land Agency Office\" 25 Cents/Quart de Piastre Jan. 21, (1819). PCGS Fine 15. This bilingually denominated note is from a rare and early territorial change bill series that differs from the two pink paper notes cataloged here. We believe this is the second series of notes; in the right cartouche, LAND AGENCY OFFICE replaces RECEIV'D FOR LETTERS. Both issues preceded the Maverick, Durand & Co. engraved notes for the \"Land Office/Post Office\" series. Locally printed it appears, without imprint on frail white paper. All denominations from the series share a common style. Accordion-style cartouches are at both ends, with POST OFFICE EXCHANGE at left and LAND AGENCY OFFICE at right. Obligations and the denomination are across, with the French equivalent neatly in italics at top center. The top and bottom show a decorative border. Space was left for the A. T. Crane signature as \"Post Master.\" A stacked faint, but visible, ST. LOUIS/JAN. 21 red postmark was stamped at the lower right. These notes circulated extensively and were printed on very frail paper. This example is one of the finest seen and has no paper fissures or voids. Eric owned a small cache of the notes, but most were Fair or less, fragmented, and of inferior quality. This note is very sold with sharp red postmarking and a nicely penned signature. Ex: Eric P.
