This certificate is an aviation bond of 5 U.S. Dollars (among the options of $5, $10, $50 and $100) signed off by the Minister of Finance Kong Xiangxi (1880-1967). The slogans on the upper right and lower left corners translate as \"The Resistance Must Triumph\" and \"The Republic Must Survive\", respectively. The aircraft pictured in the center is a Boeing P-26 \"Peashooter\" monoplane painted with the Republican flag on the wings purchased by Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalist government, which were the main fighter planes used by the Chinese Air Force during their struggle against Japanese occupation in the North and the coast. The released aviation bonds were meant to be redeemed with no interest by drawing lots within five years at the end of the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945).China National Salvation Aviation 5-dollar bond, 1941.
