MX - Washington Bank in Westerly Uncut Sheet of $10-$5-$5-$5 Reprinted from the Amos Doolittle-Engraved Plate. The notes from this series are significant because they are the first paper money with a vignette of George Washington. This is a reprint from the original engraved plate by Amos Doolittle, New Haven, 1803, on thin bond paper. The genuine, contemporary notes are not known to us, but the $5 notes were counterfeited in the period. The series is listed (including the reprints) on page 404 of Eric's reference. Each note has an encircled Washington portrait which is styled like a coin obverse or a commemorative button. Large gray protectors are in the center, with imprints and cartouches at the left. There are signs of plate scratches, but overall it is a well-printed example. Unobtainable in genuine form, making this format very collectible. Underrated as a sheet and quite scarce.
