Proof. PCGS Gem New 65PPQ. This is a very rare Janesville title. It is the only $1 impression from the $1-$2-$5-$5 sheet engraved and printed by Toppan, Carpenter & Co, New York. A Gem proof printed on India paper only. At the top center is seated Hope with an anchor on a shield, and her name on the banner below. Several ships are in the background. A sailor leans on a capstan at lower left. The Chester L. Krause Collection had only one note from the bank, a $5 bond paper Specimen note from the bank, with flaws, and an ex: Bookbinder Collection note. This proof is in superior condition. The $2 proof from the series, PCGS Gem New 66PPQ, realized $2,585 in the Newman Part VI sale. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" as made. This is a very bold, deeply inked impression; it is beautiful and striking. The only other proofs from the series are in the Wisconsin Historical Society. In impressive condition and likely unique in private hands. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016).\n\n(Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.)
