Calhoun, MO - Tutt & Avery 25 Cents 186_. Remainder. PCGS Fine 15 Apparent. An extremely rare Union-controlled area scrip rarity. Although not signed, it has received considerable handling. Calhoun, where both scrip issuers were prominent businessmen, is in Henry County, Missouri. The \"Tutt\" of the title is likely \"James A.\" He was active at that location in the period and died in 1863. The Avery family was extremely influential in county business and affairs. Angus Clark Avery, one of the largest landholders and taxpayers, helped form the First National Bank of Clinton. Printed uniface on white rag paper by J. Mc Kittrick 36 N. Main St., St. Louis. A Federal style eagle with shield is at the center beneath the arced TUTT & AVERY title. Upper corners show a \"25\" counter at left and location at right. The obligation across the bottom states, \"...in Merchandise or in U. S. Currency when presented in sums of One Dollar.\" Plate B.
