Ketesville, MO - J. P. Johnson $2.50 Sept. 17, 1862. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. Possibly unique, this note was issued early in the war when the town was under Confederate control. General Sterling Price was born in Ketesville (present-day Keytesville) and would return in 1864 during his \"Raids\" through this area of Missouri. The town is located in north-central Missouri's Chariton County, a pro-Confederate county at the time this note was issued. A wide-format, typeset note printed on brown rag paper with fancy end bordering. A bolded \"Two Dollars & Fifty Cents\" is across. Denomination counters are in the upper corners. The note was \"Payable in Confederate Notes, or State Bonds.\" The printed issuer name is at lower right. Margins are wide at the sides and bottom. Noted with \"Small Holes,\" but those faults are academic and trivial. The only example we have seen and a significant Civil War currency rarity. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society \n\n
