Louisiana, MO - Bank of the State of Missouri, Bank in Louisiana $1 July 1861 MO-60 G180 SENC. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. An extremely rare Civil War-dated $1 note from this unregistered series; fully issued from the Louisiana bank location. The layout and devices are the same as on the previous, with denomination dies in the upper corners, allegorical Science under the American Bank Note Co. New York imprint, and floral/denomination border. The title is straight across the center, with the denomination arcing below. According to the Secretary of State's website, the shield on the state seal at bottom center is divided into the federal side (right) and the state side (left). The crescent moon on the left \"symbolizes Missouri at the time of the state seal's creation [1822], a state of small population and wealth which would increase like the new or crescent moon; it also symbolizes the 'second son,' meaning Missouri was the second state formed out of the Louisiana Territory.\" Plate B. No. 1007. Very sharply signed by cashier A. S. Robinson and bank president Robert A. Barnes. It is interesting that there is no penned day before or after the written \"July.\" PCGS notes \"Edge Splits; Minor Rust Stains.\" These faults are modest, and this is a very appealing example. There is an extra wide margin at the top. This was the first note using this design style that Eric acquired -- and that was decades ago.
