Like the $3 offered in this sale, an India paper proof mounted on original cardstock by Toppan, Carpenter & Co. A superb rural vignette from this imprint's palette is seen at top center showing large farm animals that appear to be well fed and contented. An oval Henry Clay portrait is at the center of the right end between sculptural \"5\" dies. We know of the $5 India paper proof from the Krause Collection, but this is superior, and that example (with some paper thins), realized $2,300 in March 2010. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Cardstock\" as made. Another Gem proof that is rarely encountered except in elite collections. Ex: Eric P.
