A beautifully designed $2 Lucas & Simonds proof which was originally part of the $1C-$2A-$10A-$20A sheet layout. This India paper proof was mounted on its original card by Danforth, Bald & Co., Cincinnati. On this layout, the title placement appears to have been dictated by the chosen vignettes, with the first part slightly arcing above the Auditor's seal at top left of center, and the latter part directly across the center with the denomination and text below. In the tall vignette at the left end, two Native American hunters observe something toward which one of them gestures. The top of the tepee behind them intersects the TWO arcing above. In the wide vignette over the \"2\" die at right, three allegorical women have various symbols of agriculture, liberty, navigation, etc. Plate A. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Card Stock\" as made. This is the finest example of the type sold in the 1990 ABN Sale.
