Slightly left of center, America, draped in the billowing Stars and Stripes, is borne through the sky by an eagle with its wings outstretched. At left, George Washington is dramatically posed. With one foot resting on a cannon tail, he holds his sword in his right hand and points at America with his left. The female portrait at the lower right has the same Renaissance style as that on the $2 previous, but the dress and pose differ.
