Though defined as a scrip note, the size and engraved designs of this intricate note seem to indicate it acted as a bank and notes were paid on demand including at the \"Office in New York.\" This Danforth, Wright & Co. engraved note is printed uniface, without the color back added to the later series. At top center, three cherubim labor strenuously at crushing a boulder with their screw press. At the lower left are miners in a tunnel and at the lower right are a Native American mother and child.
