North Carolina May 17, 1783 10 Shillings Contemporary Counterfeit Fr. NC-205 PCGS Extremely Fine 45 Apparent. This is a rare contemporary counterfeit from a late series. We have not observed a genuine example of this denomination. Printed on two sides on laid paper with a Thomas Davis imprint. There is a ship vignette at the lower left with the motto COMMERCIO. The typeset back with ornaments is perpendicular to the face. The note is strongly printed, especially compared with the Newman plate note (ex: Boyd collection, Ford Part XV: Lot 8528). However, many details are crude for a note printed by a quality conscious shop like Davis'. Much of the face text is uneven or poorly lettered. The \"agreeable\" in the fourth line and \"huudred\" in the last stand out. The back has uneven printing with some voids between letters. Penned endorsements are similar to those observed on other suspected counterfeits of this denomination. Noted with \"Minor Edge Damage; Small Paper Pull on Back.\" An interesting note and likely obtainable only as a contemporary counterfeit. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society \n\n
