PCGS Very Choice New 64.  The second of the three denominations for Legal Tender notes proposed by Spencer Clark in an 1864 report to Salmon P. Chase. This India paper proof is affixed to a new yellow card. Printed by the National Currency Bureau without an imprint. The full width, progressive version of the Embarkation of the Pilgrims, 1620, is featured, but not yet titled titled under the vignette. A superb scene adapted from Robert W. Weir and engraved by Joseph P. Ourdan for the Bureau. Likely the Hessler plate note. An outstanding example and exceedingly rare.
