Prior to this weight reduction, minor coinage was generally not found in circulation as its intrinsic value was greater than its face value. After the Mint Act of 1853, dimes, quarters, and half dollars began to circulate freely in the channels of commerce. This deeply toned half dollar shows slight high-point friction and the bright surfaces are toned deep rose with accents of blue-green. Ex: \"Colonel\" E.H.R.
