Struck during the turbulent political times in Sweden when Carl was representing the Vasa ruling family in Stockholm while his brother, Sigismund, was King in Poland. Discord between the Protestants and Catholics weakened the State and eventually broke out as the Thirty Years War. In 1600 Sigismund was forced to abdicate the throne in Sweden and Carl IX became King. This example of the rare Daler struck during the Regency is sharply detailed and most attractive with light silver and gray patina.
