Mayers & Bro. - Payable in Multiple Locations $1 Jan. 9, 1862 Rothert 234-25. PCGS Very Fine 30. The $1 note from this issue date. Payable at five locations. Similar to Rothert 234-13. Plate letter D is at lower left, and the date is completely engraved. Three payables are across the top: Stirman & Dickson, Fayetteville; White & Hanley, Van Buren; F. H. Nash, Ft. Gibson. Along the bottom are Alexander & Allen, Sherman and J. M. Smoot, Denton, Texas. The red Mayers ink stamp on the face is bright. This is a very broad-sized note with exceptional paper integrity. Since the paper used to print these notes was frail, this representative should be considered \"PPQ\" for the type. Perfectly margined and sharply signed. One of the finest known Mayers & Bro. notes from any series. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society \n\n

From Newman VIII (Heritage Auctions, 11/2017), lot 29087, realized $456.
