A plate position A India paper proof. A very wide vignette occupies the top half of this gorgeous note. The imprint of Bald, Cousland & Co., New York & Philada. is at the bottom, and the ABC monogram is at the right, to the left of plate letter A. Reddish-pink lace tint covers most of the note, except the blocks to be filled in and the white FIFTY outlined by a deeper tint. The wide vignette at the top is the same as on the previous, with allegorical females supporting a denomination shield and a transportation theme in the background. The major change is that Henry Clay's portrait replaces Lewis V. Bogy's in the lower left, and the Missouri seal is in the lower right. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled,\" as made, and with \"Small Edge Tears; Minor Stains.\" Under magnification, we found it difficult to find these faults. Like the previous $20 Bald Cousland imprint plate style, this has a penciled \".50\" on the blank back. The era of purchasing a color Obsolete note proof for 50 cents was several generations ago. This $50 proof was not part of the 1939 Wismer purchase (it has no Wismer number listing), but was obtained later. This monogrammed $50 type was not in the 1990 ABN Sale.
