Proof. PCGS Gem New 65PPQ.  This is a rare bank with some proofs and a few issued notes known. A full series proof sheet, $1-$2-$3-$5, was sold in the first Krause auction sale and originally came from the 1990 American Banknote Company Archives auction. We believe that sheet is still intact, making the Newman Collection examples among the few individual proofs known from the bank. The series was printed from a stunning and intricately engraved Danforth, Wright & Co. New York & Philadelphia plate on India paper, and mounted to its original cardstock. A full red lace tint, using the Cyrus Durand patented devices, crosses the note. The bordering is a deeper rust-red, with numerous repeating micro-lettered textual denominations. At top center, livestock trading is conducted between two men as a worker leads a steer by the nose. At lower right, a facing woman's portrait is in an oval frame surrounded by filigree. Intricate dies are in the upper corners. An outlined TWO protector is within the color tint. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Cardstock\" as made. The cited full four-subject proof sheet from the Krause Collection sold for $17,250 in September 2009. This is a gorgeous $2 proof and is the last denomination from the series originally part of the Newman Collection sheet. Ex: Eric P.
