Kirtland, OH - Kirtland Safety Society Bank $2 Jan. 8, 1837 OH-245- G4, Wolka 1424-06, Rust 5. PCGS Very Fine 25. This scarcer, low-denomination Kirtland type is in an attractive grade. It was issued after the \"Anti-Bank-ing\" notes and does not have any overprinting. A scribe signature of Joseph Smith, Jr., as cashier is at the left, and Sidney Rigdon as bank president signed at the right. Printed from the plates engraved by Underwood, Bald, Spencer & Hufty, N. York & Philad. In the harvesting scene at top center, a standing farmer and seated wife, overlooking a field where slaves are at work. The title is straight across the note and fairly tightly spaced. Each corner has \"2\" numerals, and oval vignettes are at the ends: a detail from the sheep-shearing scene appearing on the previous note, and a sailing clipper ship at right. The $1, $2, and $3 notes from the lower denomination plate are much scarcer than the $5 and $10 notes. Perfectly balanced margins are seen on three sides, with the bottom a bit close. The surfaces are immaculate and this is a perfect Very Fine note with a distinguished pedigree. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society \n\n
