This unregistered Civil War series (it did not have a countersignature on the face when emitted) combines a tremendous layout with inspired vignettes by the American Bank Note Co., Philadelphia imprint. This was also a Branch Payable type with an engraved line inserted in the obligation for the issued notes to be given a location for redemption, which in this case is indistinct. At the top center, the wide, evocative Indian buffalo-hunting scene, originally engraved by Toppan, Carpenter & Co., is positioned above the red protector lathe work outlining ONE in white. At the lower left is a young woman's portrait, and at the lower right is a dog and safe motif. Though low grade, this is a rare issued note with clear signatures. Noted along with its Apparent designation are \"Edge and Internal Splits, Tears and Damage; Tape on Back.\" The branch color proof of this style realized $5,170 in the Newman Part VI sale in April 2015.
