Murr is one of 13 undergraduate UCSC students who are being recognized for excellence in the arts by the 2020 Irwin Scholarships. Recipients of the award are included in group show each year. With our current pandemic reality and the closing of the UCSC campus, this year the work will be displayed digitally in IRWIN 2020: Collective Solitude, the 34th annual Irwin Scholarship Award exhibition. The students were tasked to create work in a period of heightened uncertainty and separation as artists worldwide are tasked with finding creative ways to bridge the gaps between people. The were asked how, as artists, they can work under such great limitations to maintain communities and a sense of togetherness? Murr is joined in the show by Aaron Martinez, Anastasia Oleson, Angel Gonzales, Dominic Ramirez, Edgar Cruz, Emma McWaid, Jocelyn Lee, Joshua Zupan, Morgan Tomfohr, Natalie Del Castillo, Rodrigo Ramos, and Veriche Blackwell. As a way of ensuring that others would have the kind of art education that allowed her to flourish in the art community, the late Sue Irwin established the William Hyde and Susan Benteen Irwin Scholarship Fund in 1986 in honor of her husband.
