Taking temperatures is one of many COVID-19 safety precautions schools are taking as teachers begin the process of safely restarting in-person classes. As kindergarteners and TK students at Vine Hill Elementary and Brook Knoll Elementary in the Scotts Valley Unified School District came to school on Wednesday it marked the first time public school students in Santa Cruz County had attend school in person since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. As she welcomed students back to campus on Wednesday Vine Hill Elementary School principal Tracey Neilsen said, “It feels amazing to finally arrive at this day. We can finally welcome our students back.” Mountain Elementary School in Soquel and Pacific Elementary in Davenport will welcome their kindergarteners back on Monday and public schools in the Santa Cruz City, Soquel Elementary, and San Lorenzo Valley Unified school districts, along with Happy Valley and Bonny Doon Elementary schools, follow on March 15. Elementary School students in Pajaro Valley Unified Schools District's kindergarten and first grade are scheduled to be back at school on April 5. Students will be phased back to in-person classes by grade with the oldest students following the younger ones.
