The old bridge was removed in 1968 and relocated somewhere in South America; it was replaced by a concrete bridge completed in 1970. During the period in which the Washington Street Bridge was a draw bridge, the head of navigation was upriver at the railroad bridge, not visible from the Turning Basin.
