He has taken part in multiple research visits to Nikumaroro in search of evidence relating to the disappearance of Amelia Earhart. He has also done Earhart-related research in Fiji, on Tinian, on Kanton Island, in Idaho and elsewhere. In 2001, 2007, 2010 and 2017 he supervised archaeological work at the Seven Site, suspected to be where Earhart last camped and died. He is also the author of many textbooks and journal articles about archaeology and historic preservation. He holds a PhD in anthropology from the University of California, Riverside, is a U.S. Navy veteran, and from 1977 to 1979 helped develop archaeological and historic preservation programs in what were to become the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Palau, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Between 1979 and 1989 King was employed by the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation in Washington DC, where he and his wife, the late Patricia Parker, were responsible for writing National Register Bulletin 38, a U.S. government guideline document that many indigenous groups and local communities have used to protect their cultural heritage from destructive government projects. King is now a self-employed cultural heritage and environmental impact assessment consultant based in Silver Spring, Maryland. He is widowed, and has four grown children and seven grown and growing grandchildren."},{"label":"Search SCL Digital Archives for this Author","value":["King, Thomas F."]},{"label":"Search Author or Book in Library Catalog","value":"Search for works by Thomas F.
