Sister ship to the \"Solano\" (1878-1930), the Contra Costa carried Southern Pacific trains across Carquinez Strait between the terminals at Point Benicia on the north and Port Costa on the south. Construction of the railway bridge over Carquinez Strait rendered the ferries obsolete.
