She won recognition for her art while attending Analy High School, and continued pursuing art at Santa Rosa Junior College. She completed her BA at the University of California at Berkeley, where she majored in art and minored in English. Rosalie met her husband Bill Welsh in St. Louis, Missouri, where they settled and had five children. Tragically, Rosalie’s husband Bill died in 1958. After his death she traveled back to California with her children. On her return to Santa Rosa Rosalie sought work as a single mother, securing a job at Sonoma State Hospital in Eldridge. Once her family was mostly grown, she found time to return to art. Taking up stained glass, her talent for grace and beauty shone in her nature-themed window designs, and in 1976 she opened a shop with a partner on Montgomery Drive, in Santa Rosa. Stained Glass Masters became a hub for promoting this unique art form, and Rosalie became widely known as a skillful designer; her windows grace many homes in the area. She always spoke of this period as a high point because of the many friends who dropped by the shop to visit. Her love of nature was reflected in her designs. While best known for her work in stained glass, Rosalie is also known and loved by many as the kind woman who welcomed them into her home. She gently fostered a welcoming atmosphere of participation in art, intellectual pursuits and personal growth. Rosalie was also a poet, a gardener and a world traveler.
