McNear Peninsula is visible on the upper left."},{"label":"Title","value":"Looking northeast from Hein Brothers Quarry to the Petaluma River, Petaluma, California, 1973"},{"label":"Biographical or Historical Note","value":"The quarry at the southern end of Petaluma was operated by Hein Brothers Basalt Rock Company, founded in Napa in 1921 as a partnership between Mark Hein and his brother, Jack Hein. The company moved to Petaluma in 1925 and in addition to the Petaluma quarry, also operated a quarry in Windsor and a red-mix business. The quarries and the rock, sand and gravel business were sold to Quarry Products, Inc. in 1977, though the Hein Brothers retained the redi-mix business. The Petaluma quarry continued operation under Quarry Products, and later, under Dutra Materials, until the mid-1990s.
