When she retired to Sonoma, California, she began quilting, banding raptors, continuing church involvement, and researching family genealogy. For years she attended the John Long Family Reunions where she discovered that others were deeply interested in their family histories. At the 2014 reunion, she received the diary of Rachel Jane Robinson, her great-grandmother. Her story was unknown: the only evidence she left was her diary, a small faded, handwritten book beginning to disintegrate in its antique bindings. Elizabeth dedicated five years to painstaking transcription of Rachel Jane’s diary.
