Thorpe and his wife Mandy (Amanda Yarbrough Thorpe, (born 2/1/1897 in Crescent City, CA.) Photo taken early 1920's about the time they built a double circular, steam powered sawmill on the old Buckhorn Ranch. Years before it was a stage coach stop. It is & has been for years owned by Andrew Jackson Blaney. The Atterbury truck filled with firwood, probably for apple driers. Believe this wood cut on Coleman Ranch, down on Finley Creek slope not far from South boundary, but on a little ridge near top. I saw where they were cutting one time while hunting with Toto hound, for varmints one winter. It was learned from the Thorpes that this shot was taken off a wide curve on Coleman Valley Road west of Occidental, but a few feet from corner of old Blaney Ranch southwest off road. Ugine (Eugene?) Meeker lived here for some time in fact he built a fairly long chicken house here to house Leghorn chickens, so in the egg business for time, but why he went into chicken business, I'll never know.
