He attended Petaluma High School and Santa Rosa Junior College. Sherman transferred to and graduated with distinction in 1939 from Stanford with an AB in economics, and completed a Masters Degree in Political Science the next year. Sherman received a prestigious internship with National Institute of Public Affairs in Washington D.C. in 1940. He was drafted and sent to Officers Candidate School and then to the Air Force. After serving in World War II, he worked in the Civil Aeronautics Administration. In 1956, Sherman was appointed assistant to the Manager of The Atomic Energy Commission and the family moved to Bethesda, Maryland. He worked as Budget Officer then Management Specialist with the Office of Reactor Development. In 1962, he moved his family to Idaho Falls when he was appointed Assistant Manager for the National Reactor Testing Station. When he retired from public service in 1971, he and his wife, Phoebe, moved back \"home\" to Sonoma County. Sherman had an active retirement. Sherman's grandmother had come to California in 1864 by covered wagon, so Sherman's interest in history and the American westward movement was deeply personal. He was a founding member of the Redwoods Chapter Genealogy Society and served as its first treasurer. He headed the local chapter of The Sons of the American Revolution; was instrumental in starting the Luther Burbank Home & Garden, serving as chairman for nine years; and was an active member of the Native Sons of The Golden West and E. Clampus Vitus. He was president and treasurer of the Sonoma County Historical Society and contributed numerous articles to the Society's Journals. An accomplished historian and genealogist, he helped friends and family members research their family histories. He died in Santa Rosa on October 21, 2010.--Press Democrat, NOv. 28, 2010."},{"label":"Maps/StreetView","value":"View location in Google Maps"},{"label":"Photo Sub- Category","value":["Carriage House since 1977"]},{"label":"Photo Category","value":["Home and Gardens Since 1977"]},{"label":"Class","value":["Photograph"]},{"label":"Date Created or Published (clean) (1)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1985"},{"label":"DateType-PublicationStatus","value":["s"]},{"label":"Creation Date (Original)","value":"1985"},{"label":"Description","value":"Black and white photo of eaves of Carriage House and about half of the stained glass window.
