He was a deputy in the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department from 1959 to 1961 and last worked as security supervisor at Milton Meyer Co. in San Francisco. The company was targeted by an injunction suit in August 1952 filed by the County of Sonoma over a zoning complaint. The complaint, filed July 11, 1952 by the District Attorney, alleged that the operations caused “great and noxious clouds of irritating and noxious fumes to descend upon the surrounding inhabitants.” The suit resulted in an abatement judgement and fine by Judge Hilliard Comstock on Jan. 15, 1953. The operation was destroyed by an arson-caused fire on August 27, 1953. A Healdsburg Tribune article stated: \"Charcoal Kilns - The California Charcoal Company was practically destroyed in a $35,000 fire Sunday afternoon. Shown are views of the burning wood and charcoal piles on the property after the fire had razed a warehouse and office.
