(Hunt) Smith and raised in Bloomfield. He was an athlete at Santa Rosa High School and graduated from Stanford University. He married May Mickelson of Bloomfield in the San Rafael, Calif, Congregational Church on Nov. 13, 1909 and they had three children: Helen M. (Smith) Dillon (born Sept. 7, 1910); Hildreth Aileen (Smith) Milliken (born Nov. 20, 1913); and Russell Lynn Smith, Jr. (Dec. 25, 1919-Apr. 10, 2013). Smith apparently changed the spelling of his name from Russel to Russell sometime between 1909 and 1919. He worked as a farmer for most of his life, retiring at some point to Eureka, Calif.
