Growing up, she witnessed the major economic shift of the area as prune and walnut orchards, where she sometimes worked picking fruit, were converted into vineyards. Although she initially had other aspirations, she spent most of her career in the wine industry, holding administrative roles at Kenwood Winery and Kunde Winery until her retirement in 2010. Lynette participated in community youth groups like 4-H and FFA, and was involved in the 4th of July parade, though she found the popular pillow fights too messy after trying them once as a teenager. She highly valued the small-town support system, which provided great comfort and help when her husband passed away. Her experience during the 2017 firestorm began when her brother dropped off their mother (Dee Sand) at her home, leading to her own evacuation a few days later.
