They were sold to the Atlantic Transport Company in 1915, and then to Toyo Kisen Kaisha in 1916. Toyo Kisen Kaisha was based in Tokyo, with San Francisco offices in the Merchant's National Bank Building and used Piers 34 and 36 (now demolished and replaced by the Brannan Street Wharf). The Tenyo Maru was built 1908 by Mitsubishi Dockyard & Engine Works, Nagasaki for Toyo Kisen K. K., Tokyo and used on Hong Kong-Yokohama-San Francisco passenger services. Tenyo Maru scrapped in 1933. Both liners had a 22, 000 ton displacement and were the largest ships in the company's Far East-Pacific Coast fleet.  (see http://bit. ly/1yTtMVn). The King Coal Company was headquartered at 369 Pine Street, San Francisco, with a depot located at 39 San Bruno Avenue, San Francisco. The International Shipping Digest, vol. 1, no. 1, 1922 reported that the King Coal Company was awarded half the) contract for bunkering the Toyo Kisen Kaisha fleet; the James Rolph Company was awarded the other half (page 13) (see http://bit. ly/12Y2xQT)."},{"label":"DateType-PublicationStatus","value":["q"]},{"label":"Reprinting Date (Original)","value":"May 7, 2012 (2nd copy)"},{"label":"Publisher Location (Original)","value":"San Francisco, Calif."},{"label":"Description","value":"Front view of Japanese passenger liners Korea Maru and Tenyo Maru docked between Piers 34 and 36, and flanking the King Coal Company's King Coal no. 1 bunker ship."},{"label":"Contributor(s) (Person)","value":["Lothers, Hayden, 1894-1938","Young, Ralph, 1882-1943"]},{"label":"Contributor(s) (Corporate Body)","value":["Lothers & Young Studios (San Francisco, Calif.)"]},{"label":"Title","value":"SS Korea Maru and SS Tenyo Maru, Brannan Street Wharf, San Francisco, California, 1920s"},{"label":"Date Created or Published (clean) (1)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1920"},{"label":"Item Physical Dimensions","value":"20 x 25 cm"},{"label":"Longitude","value":"-122.387523"},{"label":"Geocoding Status","value":["Exact geocoding"]},{"label":"Reproduction Details (Physical Items)","value":"Reprinted from original print by the Lab, 400 Tesconi Circle, Santa Rosa, Calif., May 7, 2012."},{"label":"Geographic Metadata Source","value":["GNIS"]},{"label":"Source of Title and Description Note","value":"Title supplied by cataloger."},{"label":"Maps/StreetView","value":"View location in <a href=\"https://www.google.com/maps?q=&layer=c&cbll=37.784062,-122.387523&cbp=11,0,0,0,0&ll=37.784062,-122.387523&z=15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google Maps</a>"},{"label":"Map Zoom Level","value":["17"]},{"label":"City or Town","value":["San Francisco"]},{"label":"Latitude","value":"37.784062"},{"label":"Item Type","value":["Still image"]},{"label":"Street Address","value":"Brannan Street Wharf, San Francisco, California"},{"label":"Geographic Feature","value":["Brannan Street Wharf"]},{"label":"Subject (Topical)","value":["Passenger ships"]},{"label":"Subject (Corporate Body)","value":["Tenyo Maru (Ociean liner)","Korea Maru (Ocean liner)"]},{"label":"California County","value":["San Francisco"]},{"label":"State or Province","value":["California"]},{"label":"Subject (Time Period)","value":"1920-1929"},{"label":"Other Physical Details","value":"Black-and-white"},{"label":"Country","value":["United States"]},{"label":"Shelving Location of Physical Item(s)","value":"Sonoma County History & Genealogy Library, 211 E Street, Santa Rosa, CA 95401 https://sonomalibrary.org/locations/sonoma-county-history-and-genealogy-library"},{"label":"Sort Title","value":"SS Korea Maru and SS Tenyo Maru, Brannan Street Wharf, San Francisco, California, 1920s"},{"label":"Credit line","value":"Courtesy, Sonoma County Library"},{"label":"Preferred Citation","value":"[Identification of item], Lothers & Young Studios collection, about 1920-1930, SPC.00114.038961 (Photo 38961, Sonoma County Library Digital Archives), History and Genealogy Library, Sonoma County Library, Santa Rosa, CA."},{"label":"Collection Guide Name","value":"Lothers & Young Studios Collection, about 1920-1930 (SPC.00014)"},{"label":"Archival Collection Sort Name","value":["Lothers & Young Studios Collection, about 1920-1930 (SPC.00014)"]},{"label":"Archival Collection Identifier","value":["SPC.00114"]},{"label":"Archival Collection Item Identifier","value":"SPC.00114.038961"},{"label":"Item Call Number(s)","value":"ANNEX PHOTO 38961;ARCHIVES PHOTO 38961"},{"label":"Subject keywords","value":"Transportation;
