Masuoka was an Analy High School gradutate and senior class president of the class of 1940 and was the first American of Japanese ancestry to receive the American Legion Citizenship Award in Sonoma County upon his high school graduation. Masuoka was killed in action in France in 1944 with the famed 442nd \"Go For Broke\" Regimental Combat Team made up of Japanese-American volunteers. The extraordinary courage of the men of the 442nd made it the most decorated unit in U.S. Military history. Masuoka's parents were notified of his death while still interned in the Amache Relocation Center in Colorado.
