He was an esteemed sculptor, known for his generosity and mentoring in the artist community as well as the Tyrolean hat that he often wore. He was one of the founding members of Sonoma County's Art Trails and Sebastopol's Art at the Source. Frank also served on the board of the Sebastopol Center for the Arts. Over the decades, his sculptures have been shown in many solo and group exhibitions and are included in art collections all over the world. Frank was born in Darmstadt, Germany on September 16, 1933 to Anna Margareta (née Hoerr) and Leonhard Schueler. When Frank was ten, his mother (who had remarried), his step-father, and three sisters died in a bombing on September 11, 1944. As a teen, Frank bicycled through parts of Europe, even over the Gotthard pass! In 1954, he became an electro-mechanical engineer. He was hired by Pacific Telephone upon his emigration to the U.S. in 1955 and retired after 25 years. Frank was drafted into the U.S. Navy five months after his arrival, and served on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Essex until October, 1957. He became a U.S. citizen on March 3, 1961. Frank married his first wife, Sue, in 1962 and had two children: Kimberly Sue in 1964 and Michael Frank in 1965. Frank and family moved from Monterey Park, CA to Marin County in 1974. After his divorce, Frank married Patricia Heynen on Nov 21, 1981, and his family grew to include Pat's children, Tracy and Jim. His surviving expanded family includes five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and his step-brother, Peter Mailaender, of Neu-Isenburg, Germany."}],"description":"Frank N.
