His son, Gerald E. Turney, notes that people would often stop at the Fish Market just to read his dad's latest addition to his humurous fish related doggerel, puns and limericks. Turney was a enthusiastic river man who tested the then-revolutionary [Russel] Burke-Cycle engine in the 1920. He also delivered mail  to Penngrove, Two Rock and Valley Ford during World War II. During the 1950s, in addition to working his fish market, Turney was a film projectionist at both the California and State movie theaters in Petaluma.
