Thank you to all the volunteers who helped to make this public artwork, and we hope “Living Quilt for Santa Rosa” will bring new life and beauty over the coming months to this area that was severely affected by the wildfires last October. This project received funding from the City of Santa Rosa Public Art Program. The Public Art Program recently issued a Call for Artists “Fire Response” seeking temporary art installations addressing the 2017 Northern California Wildfires. The Fountaingrove area and this park (Rincon Ridge) were particularly hard hit. The City of Santa Rosa asked for artists to propose artworks to respond to the fires. This artwork aimed to bring new life and hope and spots of color to this burned over park in Fountaingrove. Community people helped to make the handmade paper quilt that had seeds for wildflowers in the pulp to grow and sprout and bloom in the same colors and pattern. The pattern for this quilt is a traditional one called \"Flying Geese\" I thought this pattern was a reflection of hope for the future and being able to fly away to a different place. The artwork was installed on Nov. 25, 2018, and it continues to change over time and the wildflowers bloom each spring.
