Text: Dear Mr. Burbank, I herewith send you a few bulbs of potatoes, wich I found at last. It seems that there are varieties among them. They grow at tremendous elevations between 9 and 10000 ft. It rains in these regions during the summer a good deal but the soil is remarkable pulerised and drowns the water very quick. I hardly think they will be of much value to you as they are awful small. I had to pull the leaves and stems off, for they were coming in bloom already. Maybe the tubers will make a second growth this year, otherwise you better keep them half dry and let them ... next spring. Those other tuber and bulb I just put it for curiosity but the large flowered Argemone is well worth growing in my opinion. True it is quite spiny, but the flowers are nearly as large as those of the Matillija poppy. The plants are just coming in bloom now. They seem to be more or less biennial. I am here in a wonderfull beautiful region. Mangoes, sugarcane, tapiocia, corn, coffee, bananas, peanuts, everything grows here. The senery is sublime and the climate delightful.
