R. Group Non-Proiit Institution To Be Located in Old Home Of Plant Scientist Plans for establishing a new non-profit educational institution in Santa Rosa were revealed yesterday when articles of incorporation were filed with the secretary of state at Sacramento by the Luther Burbank College of Commerce. The school is being founded as a \"living memorial\"\" to the late plant scientist, according to Krncst E. Close, one of the five directors listed in the incorporation papers filed. Other directors of the new school are Mrs. Estelle E. Close, Mrs. Eliz abeth Waters Burbank, Irvine earner and W. Warren Thornberry. The college will Tie located in the spacious 14-room home in which Burbank died on the north side of Tupper street at the intersection with Santa Rosa. Under tentative plans for the commercial college the former Burbank residence and grounds surrounding it, consisting of nine lots, will be taken over by the corporation. The grounds will be developed into an attractive \"garden campus.\" according to Close, and ath letic fields will be provided. The articles of corporation provide for issuing no stock, but al low memberships in the memorial college to be granted to any persons desiring to contribute or in vest in the educational institution. Names of all donors will be in scribed below a placque of Burbank in the school's entrance, it was announced. Mrs. Bur bank enthusiastically endorsed the school project when it was first proposed, according to Close, declaring that she would regret turning the property over to anything other than a worth while project and that she could think of nothing more fitting than a school. The plant creator's widow will take an active part in super vision of the commercial school as' a member of its board of directors. Close's Modern Commercial Col lege, a business school that has been operated here by Close with classrooms in the Mailer building in Fourth street, will be merged into the new corporation. \"We found our present quarters unable to handle our growing number of students,\" he explained last night, declaring that he had decided upon going into the new school as a \"worthwhile com munity endeavor.\" Although work is expected to start soon on the remodelling of tha, Burbank homo into a school. it will not likely be ready for Oef cupancy by students until late next spring or at ,the opening of the school season next fall, Close announced. In remodelling the home building both the office in which Uurbanlc did most of his studying and work and ' the room in which he died will be left intact to commemorate his memory. Although the office will be used as the college office, the room in which he died will be maintained for the display of Burbank relics of historic value. When completed the new school is expected to be able to accommodate at least 100 students, according to the directors. If the institution grows as they expect, the present building will be maintained permanently as a social hall and new school build ings erected on the specious (property, it was announced. The new college will be mod-ernly equipped with ail of the latest office equipment available, according to Close. ' Both Close and his wife have been prominently identified with educational circles here for many years, Mrs. Close having formerly been a supervisor of county schools and a teacher in the public schools. . earner, another director in the new educational project, has been an instructor in the Close college here, Thornberry is Mrs. Close's son. Mrs. Burbank returned here recently from southern California, where she had been making recorded radio addresses on the life and work of her late husband. The incorporation papers of the commercial college were drafted by W. F. Cowan, local attorney. HEAD SCHOOL Mr. and Mrs. Ernest E.
