Patti Geib was born and raised in San Francisco, attended Sonoma State, and moved to Kenwood later, connecting with the community through the Kenwood School Association (KSA) and as a referee coordinator for Kenwood soccer. Following his father’s footsteps, Jim joined the Kenwood Fire Department at age 18, rising to Assistant Chief, and also worked for Cal Fire as a bulldozer operator for wildland fires. They recalled the primitive fire notification system which utilized a specific phone number ringing simultaneously in firemen’s homes, where dialing \"9\" on a rotary phone would trigger the sirens located both at the station and on the Behler ranch water tower. The 2017 firestorm was a devastating experience, as they were away visiting their daughter when they received news that wind-driven embers had destroyed both their home and Jim's mother's house, making them feel profoundly \"unmaterialistic\" afterwards.
