She completed her education through university in the Philippines, and then worked as a military nurse there as well. In 1985 she immigrated to the United States with an agency that placed Filipino nurses like herself in American occupations. Her husband, who did not originally immigrate together as a dependent, had a harder time and had to wait for seven years before joining her here. Prospera first arrived in Secaucus, New Jersey and stayed there until the year 2000 when she moved to her current home in Houston.
