He attended schools within Houston ISD and Cypress-Fairbanks ISD before pursuing higher education at Lone Star Community College and the University of Houston, followed by a brief stint in law school. His childhood memories include being one of the few Asian-American students in his community, navigating cultural identity, and developing a passion for speech and debate. Terrence's parents separated when he was young, with his mother running a laundromat and later becoming a teacher. His early aspirations evolved from entertainment dreams to a focus on education and creative storytelling. Today, Terrence lives in Houston, where he continues his career as an ELA teacher and a content creator, working alongside his partner on their YouTube channel, Quality Culture. In this interview, Terrence discusses his upbringing in Houston as a Vietnamese American, his educational journey, and the challenges and rewards of balancing his teaching career with his creative work on YouTube. He reflects on the evolving representation of Asian Americans in media, the importance of critical thinking in education, and his hopes for fostering nuanced conversations through his work. The interview also delves into his reflections on cultural identity, teaching philosophies, and his aspirations for both his students and his content creation audience."},{"label":"Abstract","value":"This item is part of a collection that includes images and ephemera related to interviews conducted by the Houston Asian American Archive (HAAA) since 2010."},{"label":"Time Span","value":["2020s"]},{"label":"Date","value":"D:09 M:03 Y:2024"},{"label":"People and Organizations","value":["Tran, Terrence"]},{"label":"Title","value":"Terrence Tran"},{"label":"Interviewee(s)","value":["Tran, Terrence"]}],"description":"Terrence Tran","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/rice/iiif/6152aad1-6000-44c2-b80e-e8ea51717790/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Terrence Tran","height":2694,"width":1848,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/rice/iiif/6152aad1-6000-44c2-b80e-e8ea51717790/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/rice/iiif/6152aad1-6000-44c2-b80e-e8ea51717790","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":1024,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":2694,"width":1848},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/rice/iiif/6152aad1-6000-44c2-b80e-e8ea51717790/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/rice/iiif/6152aad1-6000-44c2-b80e-e8ea51717790/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/rice/iiif/6152aad1-6000-44c2-b80e-e8ea51717790/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/rice/iiif/logo"}
