His current occupation is as a Research & Development test application engineer for Hewlett-Packard. He arrived in the United States in 1980. Nguyen Cong Anh Tuan studied at the French Lycee Chasseloup Laubat in Saigon, earning a degree in French Literature in France with teaching credentials in Paris before returning to Vietnam in 1960. Nguyen Cong Anh Tuan was drafted to serve the South Vietnamese Army in 1963. After graduating from the Military Academy, and a brief tour of service in the field as platoon leader, he was assigned to the Special office of General Nguyen van Thieu, President of the National Leadership Committee where he became General Thieua's liaison officer for International Relations. General Thieu later was elected President of the Republic of Vietnam. Nguyen Cong Anh Tuan kept serving President Thieua's office and became Assistant Chief of the President's Special Cabinet. Nguyen Cong Anh Tuan was then transferred to the Foreign Services and served as Third then Second Secretary at the Vietnamese Mission with the International Organizations; UNITED NATIONS in Geneva, Switzerland and New York, USA. Before returning to Saigon, he has also served as Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Vietnam in London, Great Britain for more than a year providing some support to the Paris Peace Talks. Upon his request, Nguyen Cong Anh Tuan was returned to Vietnam, where he was promoted from Captain to Commander of the 1-46 Infantry Battalion of 25th A.R.V.N. Division in Cu-chi. He was first wounded in combat in the Go-Dau area near the Cambodian border. After his release from the hospital, he was assigned to the post of Operations officer (G-3) of the Division. He was later seriously wounded in July 1974 when Cu-Chi base, the 25th Division Headquarters, was heavily shelled by enemy forces. When Communist forces arrived in Saigon a few months later, Nguyen Cong Anh Tuan was thrown out of his hospital bed where he was expecting reconstructive surgery and sent to a local jail without any treatment. His health deteriorated so much after a few months of imprisonment that he was sent to a nearby public hospital where he was taken care of and released into house arrest. He managed to escape surveillance and fled Vietnam by boat. He arrived in California with his children in January 1980. Nguyen Cong Anh Tuan went to college and got an AS in electronics in 1982 while working a part time job. He also graduated with an AS degree in Electro-mechanical Drafting and an AS in Commercial Electronics.
