She has four siblings, three of whom live in Houston today. Dr. Gor’s native language is English, although she can understand some Chinese. She also speaks Spanish. She earned a B.S. in Home Economics from the University of Houston, a M.S. in Nutrition and Food Science from Texas Women’s University, and a PhD in Allied Health Education and Administration from both the University of Houston and Baylor College of Medicine. Her first job was as a Diet Clerk in Herman Hospital, which she started at age 23. Since 2001, she has worked as a post doctoral fellow at UT M.D. Anderson. Her work focuses on public health nutrition and childhood obesity. Dr. Gor has been involved with the following organizations in the past: the American Dietetic Association, the Houston Area Dietetic Association, the Chinese American Citizens Alliance, the Chinese Professional Club, and many others. She is a past president of the Asian American Health Coalition and former board member of both the Chinese Community Center and Texas Medical Center Woman’s Health Network.
