Photograph only"},{"label":"Description","value":"At left is Robinson's Farms and Farming manager, Alex Barnes, a Mohawk, who lived on the Farms and Farming with his family; Bouke \"Dick\" Kamstra; his brother Matt, Weiki Kamstra, and Barnes's daughter Georgina.,Written on the reverse: \"Goergette [for Georgina], Weiki, Matth, Dick, Alise [for Alex}\",Edna Robinson and the Barnes Children and youth attended S. S. # 14 Nelson School, a one-room schoolhouse on Maple Avenue. A photograph of the school Children and youth in 1941 or 1942 shows Georgina, Edgar, Ronnie and Elmer Barnes. Mary Kirby was a student then too. In 1957 the William John Benner house at 1043 Greenwood Drive was sold to Ethel Mae & Aleksander Barnes., who was then working at the Royal Botanical Gardens. Mrs Barnes, nee Sault, was of the New Credit nation. Her son Carl and his family lived in the upstairs apartment. She returned to the New Credit Reserve after the death of Mr Barnes in 1979. Mary (Kirby) Robson 2006 notes: Mr & Mrs Alex Barnes owned the house after he had retired as manager of M. M. Bobby Robinson's Farms and Farming on Maple Avenue. They were Mohawk Indians and very fine people -- friends of the Kirby family. The Barnes family are also remembered as kind friends to the Kamstras, who knew no English when they began working on the Farms and Farming.
