The Township made a 90 deg. curve at the farthest point after 1382 Lemonville Road on Conc. 1. Thomas then made a 1/2 mile private lane that went further West until it turned 90 deg. N. on the south end of Conc. 2 of East Flamborough Twp. --Conc. 2 used to go through to Snake Road until about 1950. At 1550 Lemonville Road, widower Thomas, and his married sons John, Charles and Willie, helped build a large, ornate house, shed (for horse carriages, then later vehices), sawmill, and barn by harvesting logs pulled from his bush by horses, which included a large bush beside Grindstone Creek at the extreme North end of Hidden Valley. In early Fall of 1910, William \"Willie\" and Mary and 6 of 7 Children and youth, moved from 1354 Lemonville Road before Willie's last daughter Mary was born, in October 1910. After the 1911 census, Thomas Lemon moved from 1286 Lemonville Road to 1550 Lemonville Road for the last 15 years of his life (1833-1926), leaving 1286 Lemonville Road to his only daughter Jessie & Fred Gardiner. 1550 Lemonville Road was passed down to William \"Willie\" Lemon's son Archibald \"Archie\" Lemon (1899-1977). After Archie's death, the vacant house fixtures and ornate woodwork were stolen and/or severely vandalized, followed by the barn fire set by arsonists. The remaining buildings were totally demolished in the 1980's, and the property was sold to The Green Belt. Note: This picture clearly shows wooden cold frames, the old fashioned way of nurturing seedlings of tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, caluiflower and melons, etc. instead of owning greenhouses. The plants in this picture are tall enough to be planted in the fields. The glass sash was kept over the small seedlings at all times when they were young. The sun made heat through the glass, and the layer of decomposing horse manure under the soil made heat for the roots. If the sun shone all day, a small block of wood was placed under one side of a sash to regulate the heat, but, if frost was expected at night, you put horse manure or straw on top of the glass and swept it off the following morning. When the plants were mature enough to be planted in the fields, one had to wean the plants away from their warm environment by pulling the whole sash 1/4 then 1/2 the way down during the day and, finally, all the way off, as pictured here."},{"label":"Contributor","value":"Audrey (nee Lemon) Webb"},{"label":"Creator","value":"unknown"},{"label":"Title","value":"1550 Lemonville Road"},{"label":"Repository","value":["Burlington Historical Society"]}],"description":"1550 Lemonville Road","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/f14214db-fab7-4295-be59-0952fc8b5b96/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"1550 Lemonville Road","height":860,"width":1380,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/f14214db-fab7-4295-be59-0952fc8b5b96/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/f14214db-fab7-4295-be59-0952fc8b5b96","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":860,"width":1380},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/f14214db-fab7-4295-be59-0952fc8b5b96/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/f14214db-fab7-4295-be59-0952fc8b5b96/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/f14214db-fab7-4295-be59-0952fc8b5b96/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/logo"}
