The cross-gabled roof was originally clad with cedar shingles with red clay tiles at the ridges.The front gable, clad with painted wood shingles, projects over the verandah, which has a boxed cornice and wide plain frieze supported by grouped Doric columns on brick bases. The front entrance has an elliptical fan-shaped head, with sidelights and panelled alcove. Some windows have diamond-leaded glass. The interior has high ceilings and an oak staircase.,Built in 1917 as a retirement house for Charlotte Pettit, widow of William G. Pettit, the Short Horn Stock importer and Farms and Farminger at Freeman. They had purchased \"Balsam Lodge\" and its Farms and Farming from John & Charlotte Fothergill; See also 2290 Queensway Drive. Their son John continued the business and also served as Clerk and then Secretary-Treasurer of Nelson Township until the early 1950s. Their other son Harvey became a professor of poultry science at C. A. C. In 1927, Mrs Pettit and her daughter Jennie were still living here. By 1932 it was the home of Oliver W. Ryhnas, and his wife Margaret (nee Ferguson). O. W. Rhynas (1878 - 1937) owned the lumber mill on Ontario Street, previously owned by A.S. Nicholson, and owned again in later years by Nicholson. The Acton Free Press announced his death in November 1937: \"At his residence, Muirhall, Burlington, Ontario on Thursday October 30th, 1937, Oliver W.
