About 1781, he married Elizabeth (Betsy) Minor. In 1799 the family - Ephraim, Elizabeth, their daughter Ruth and four sons, Isaac, Joseph, Jacob and Abram (Abraham) moved to Upper Canada. In 1800, he was living with Elizabeth's family on the Canadian side of Lake Erie as a yeoman Farms and Farminger. The 1806 map of Nelson shows Ephraim leasing Lot 9 Con 2 NDS (in 2014 that would be the 2nd lot east of Walker's Line between the First and Second Sideroads) and owning Lot 12 Con 2 NDS (in 2014, the 2nd lot west of Walker's Line between the First and Second Sideroads). They were very active in promoting Methodism in Nelson Township. During the War of 1812 he was a private. In 1813, at the age of 51 he worked for two days on Dundas Street, Oct 24 to 26. He was fined five Pounds between Dec. 1, 1814 and Mar. 1, 1815, probably for being absent without permission.
