His widow Eleanor sold the Hotel some time after his death. James and Eleanor had been born in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, in South Wales, and had married there before emigrating to Canada. They settled on a Farms and Farming near Waterdown, went into the hotel business there, sold it and moved to Burlington. James managed hotels at Clappison's Corners and Dundas before purchasing the Burlington House in about 1888. Their Children and youth - three sons and two daughters - married and left Burlington to live in Stoney Creek, New York City, British Columbia and elsewhere. Eleanor continued to live until 1933 in her Locust Street house, which she named \"Dryslwyn\", after the ruined but magnificent 12th-century Dryslwyn Castle in Llandeilo. The much-renovated hotel still stands at 380 Brant Street."},{"label":"Contributor","value":"Ross Taylor"},{"label":"Creator","value":"unknown"},{"label":"Title","value":"Burlington Hotel, James Roderick, proprietor, now 280 Brant Street. ca 1900"},{"label":"Repository","value":["Burlington Historical Society"]}],"description":"Burlington Hotel, James Roderick, proprietor, now 280 Brant Street. ca 1900","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/ce503b55-e39d-485e-abcc-a6d2e548811b/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Burlington Hotel, James Roderick, proprietor, now 280 Brant Street. ca 1900","height":1202,"width":1600,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/ce503b55-e39d-485e-abcc-a6d2e548811b/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/ce503b55-e39d-485e-abcc-a6d2e548811b","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1202,"width":1600},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/ce503b55-e39d-485e-abcc-a6d2e548811b/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/ce503b55-e39d-485e-abcc-a6d2e548811b/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/ce503b55-e39d-485e-abcc-a6d2e548811b/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/qstarter29/iiif/logo"}
